Take responsibility

Many people are inclined to attach blame to someone or something outside themselves—a provocation, insult, personal attack, basketball game. When all the dust settles, however, the most accurate belief about an angry display is “I made me do it.”

When we share our talents and joy with others, our light reflects off of others to create more light.

guatape

Guatapé is located in the outskirts of Medellín, bordering a reservoir created by the Colombian government for a hydro-electric dam, built in the late 1960s. This quaint town is the gathering place for “Las Vegas”, or the small farms of the area. It is also a growing area of recreation for citizens of Medellín, and aims to be a tourist destination for foreign travellers. (wiki)

A guide on how to use workaway.info

A Guide on how to use workaway.info

As we travel South America, it is inspiring to listen and talk to people using the website Workaway.info

There are so many people basically traveling for free using this website.

Last week we signed up for Workaway and the results that happened in days was nothing short of amazing. We made our profile, sent out a few emails, and in two days we had multiple job offers to stay (and eat) for free and “work.”

We have found out that not only are many hostels offering free food and accommodation in exchange for a few hours of work per day, many beautiful hotels also are getting in on the program.

It is a win-win for both parties. You get to travel for free, and the “Host” (Hotels, hostels, families wanting to learn a foreign language or skill) get your services.

What is Workaway?

Workaway is an organisation that enables travellers willing to work as volunteers to contact hosts (who can be individuals, families or groups) wanting help with their projects or activities. Volunteers or ‘workawayers’, are expected to contribute a pre-agreed amount of time per day in exchange for lodging and food provided by their host.

How do I sign up for workaway.info?

1) Register. Registration is straight forward. Enter your information. It will cost you $22 EUR to register. Or $29 for couples.

2) Create your profile. Fill out your profile as detailed as possible. Include a picture – it will help “hosts” get to know you early in the process. Tip: Use a photo that is somewhat professional 🙂

3) Apply for jobs. Search for where you want to travel. Enter your country of choice, enter your region, and you will be astounded by the amount of job offers out there.  Nearly 8k hosts have signed up.

4) Email the “Host.” Workaway offers an interface where you email locations within the website. It is also simple and straightforward.

5) Dialogue with future hosts. Start conversations early. Plan ahead as much or as little as you want.

Do you want to travel and not have enough money to see your dreams come true? This program can make it happen.
