Yoga Blogger Interview: The Travel Yogi
Yoga Blogger Interview: The Travel Yogi
Today is the 3rd week our 8 week interview series where we’re presenting interviews of 8 influential yoga bloggers. We ask 8 engaging questions and release an interview every Saturday at 8am US EST.
For this interview, we’re happy to learn more about Jen and Liz of The Travel Yogi. We connected with Jen and Liz recently through Twitter. Enjoy the interview and leave a comment or question for Jen and Liz in the comments section.
1. When did you start practicing yoga?
I became interested in yoga at a very yoga age. Around 10 years old, I begged my parents for ‘yoga lessons’ and our family ended up renting a yoga video and trying it out in the family room. I became more involved in yoga when I moved to California and have found the more I practice the more I can stay grounded in other parts of my life.
2. What drove you to share your message & your practice with the world through a yoga blog?
The Travel Yogi started after Jen, The Travel Yogi, decided to combine her passions of travel and yoga. We are able to combine these passions and share it through yoga retreats with other like minded yogis around the world.
Yoga Practice on the Beach at a Travel Yogi Retreat in the Galapagos:
3. You travel with Jen’s seven year old daughter. What are some tips for our readers on traveling with young kids?
Jen’s daughter Evie is a great travel companion. She is well behaved and already a travel pro at age 7. We suggest if traveling with your young ones, to check with the instructor and venue before booking a retreat to make sure the retreat is kid friendly.
4. Talk a little bit about one of your top three yoga and travel blog posts.
We have so many amazing teachers that write for us. I actually was lucky to get to attend Annie Carpenter’s retreat this past November and retreat with Allyson Pfeifer, who teaches in LA. Her blog post, Call Your Mother is about her experience retreating with her mother and the result it had on their relationship. The post is really amazing and very relatable and great for anyone that has been pondering traveling with their mom.
Galapagos Jungle Yoga Practice:
5. What yoga and/or travel books have had the biggest impact on you?
I am a big fan of Afar and Origin magazine for travel tips and destinations. I also recommend, “Bringing Yoga To Life,” by Donna Farhi. I read this during my Teacher Training and still reference the book for motivation in my yoga practice.
6. What style of yoga do you practice & why?
We are big fans of Vinyasa because it allows you to get creative with your flow. Vinyasa is very versatile as well and allow you to change the level of the class depending on what you are up for that day. You can also take Vinyasa with you anywhere you go!
Practicing at the Uxmal Ruins in Mexico:
7. On what form of social media do you connect w/ other yogis/yoginis most effectively?
We love Instagram! It is such a great way to share our travel pictures and connect with our retreater’s travel experience.
8. What advice do you have for people who are just beginning to study & practice yoga?
Stay with it! Yoga is all about patience and for those yogis that are just starting out, it is so important to be patient with your practice.
About The Travel Yogi:
With over a decade enjoying the benefits of yoga and a similar decade-plus in the travel industry, the light bulb in Jen’s head went off and The Travel Yogi was born. This labor of yoga/travel love is supported by Jen’s husband and their 6 year old travel-yogi-in-training daughter, who’s first question as we unpack from a trip is inevitably “where are we going next?”
Living into our motto of “Where Will Yoga Take You…” means we spend a lot of our time in the air and on the road scouting out our locations, eating the food and practicing in their yoga rooms. As a home-grown small business we have enjoyed the love of our amazing teachers and continue to push the boundaries of yoga retreats by offering off-the-yoga-mat locations like Galapagos and New Zealand. Travel and yoga open hearts and minds, break down barriers and create new world-views. All of us at The Travel Yogi believe that wholeheartedly and, consequently, we love what we do! Connect with us and our friends on Facebook, Instagram & Twitter.
8 weeks, 8 yoga bloggers, 8 questions, posted each Saturday at 8am.
Join us next Saturday AM for our next interview and check out or previous two interviews with Meredith LeBlanc of The Pondering Yogini and Tonya of The Yoga Deck and Ultima Healing.
